World of Warcraft – Item Upgrading The upgrade of an item allows players to boost the gear rating of an item by up to 700 points and add a bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln. Some weapons also come with an unaffected bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a single unit. This bonus can sometimes be more than the damage that an upgrade alone can cause. The cost of upgrading a weapon's capabilities is contingent on the nature of the weapon as well as its current level. For example an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which point it will reset to one. Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. This is usually a positive factor, but it could also have negative consequences. In the case of items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB Sorcs, for example) upgrading them could make them unusable unless you have an extremely fortunate roll. Armor items can be upgraded to increase their stats. For instance, if you have a helm or chest, it will boost its defense base while a belt and gloves will improve their required strength and dexterity. This makes it easier to navigate difficult terrains. In general, the more defense you have for your character, the greater health you will receive from each point. So, it's best to upgrade your armor. You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in the game and to unlock each fountain, you have to complete an additional quest involving the Stable Trotters. Once you've completed the primary side quest and have completed the fountain that corresponds you'll be able to contact any Great Fairy to open up the menu for upgrading your armor. The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will differ. In general, you're looking at anything from three to five Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the first upgrade, and then anywhere from five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Horns for each subsequent one. Version 1.7.2 introduced a few modifications to the mechanics of potions. Splash potions, for instance, now have a duration zero, not the 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display for the item. Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of each zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered with gold, tokens, or fragments from a rare trinket. Upgrades are a less expensive alternative to buying a brand new trinket. A player can upgrade a trinket with as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket has the same base level as the previous trinket but it also comes with an additional bonus of 1% upgrade. Trinkets can be upgraded when they're not needed and allows players to boost their power and value over time. They can be traded between players, making them an alternative to gold. In general players should upgrade their highest priority items first. This means that the best-in slot items for each class are upgraded first then their secondary gear and other pieces of equipment they won't replace in the near future (such as a ring or an cloak). When deciding on which items to upgrade, players must also take into account the preferred statistics of their class. For example, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should be focusing on upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and helm. Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher level once they're no longer needed and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional 1% upgrade bonus.
